First, separate the dark clothes from the white. Do not mix colors when washing, that’s a no no.. If there are spots on any of the clothes, spray them with a spot remover, i.e Spray and Wash.. Add clothes in the washing machine, add detergent (read detergent box on how much to use) Do not over load the machine with clothes.
Select cold wash and cold rinse. You will get the same benefit if you use warm and cold. Cold washes and rinses saves energy. ALso. if have a softner, put in the designated area listed on the washing machine. Most washing requires normal setting. If you have delicates, use the knob that read delicates. Good Luck.
Sort your clothes into three groups - whites, light colors and dark colors. For whites you’re going to want to use hot water, for light colors you can use warm water, and for dark colors you should use cold water.
You should fill the washing machine compartment about 3/4 with clothes to get the best effect. On some washers you can adjust the water level for the load size.
I use the same detergent for all of my laundry - just find an all-purpose one. If your washing machine has a separate compartment where you put the detergent, use liquid detergent. If the water runs through it for a prewash and a wash cycle, make sure to put the detergent in at the beginning of the wash cycle.
If it doesn’t have a separate compartment, it’s more convenient to use powdered detergent. Use slightly less than the measurement on the scoop or lid (or slightly more if your clothes are really dirty, or it’s a large load), and sprinkle it over your clothes before starting the washer.
If your washer drains into a tub, you might want to be aware of any problems that might develop with that - a clogged drain from lint, perhaps. That’s not the most likely thing, though.
Put your washed load into a dryer with a dryer sheet (make sure to peel the lint off the lint trap and replace it before starting the dryer) or hang them up to dry on a clothesline.
lol from reading the first few answers I am a terrible clothes washer
I put the soap in the washer first. I use as little as possible unless the clothes are particularly dirty Then I dump all of our clothes in - no sorting by colors. Delicate things are in mesh bags.
I choose a normal cycle with warm - cold. When its done, I move everything expect the things in mesh bags into the dryer.
Don’t forget to remove the lint from the filter in the dryer - its a long thing on top that you pull out.
Delicate items I puck on a rack to air dry.
Every once in a very long while I will separate all the whites out and wash them only with some bleach added.
