djbpc58 asked:

My husband left an ink pen in his shirt, we found out after we went to pull the clothes out of the dryer. Ink is everywhere, on the dryer drum and on all the clothes. Any suggestions as to how to remove the ink from the clothes?

What I do - as a last resort - is use hair spray. When you spray it on, you will see that the stain starts to dissolve. After you have left it on for about a minute, rinse and then use a stain treatment (I just use some tide). Then wash item in warmest water the fabric will tolerate- hot is best. I have never ruined anything this way but you can never be sure.

As for the dryer drum - try Goo Gone - it’s at every hardware store. Just make sure to rinse it off before you dry something again - works great with crayons in the dryer too!

    Good Luck!

Eeek - ink pen in a dryer is bad news. Here are some tips for removing ink from clothes and the dryer itself. Hope they help!

This tip is from our Stainbuster Tool:

    Removing Ink from Fabric

    1. Sponge with a dry-cleaning solvent until the ink stops bleeding.

    2. Rinse thoroughly.

    3. Sponge the stain with rubbing alcohol. Let it air-dry.

    4. If the stain remains, rub liquid laundry detergent into the stain. Let it stand overnight.

    5. Rinse.

    6. Apply prewash stain remover.

    7. Launder.

This tip is from an article on fixing common appliance problems:

What’s wrong? A pen got into the dryer, and the drum and laundry are streaked with ink.

What to do: First, salvage the clothes with GHRI Good Buy Award winner Shout Advanced Gel, and start the washer. Next, attack splotches on the dryer’s drum with laundry prewash spray or an alcohol-based hairspray spritzed on a cloth. Wash the smears with water and liquid dish detergent, and run some wet rags through a drying cycle to wipe out leftover ink.
